SIGNATURE KITCHEN & BATH MAGAZINE

When the owners of this New City, New York, home were looking to remodel their kitchen, they turned to Vincent A. Castiello, CKD, of Royal Kitchen Corp. His challenge: create a more efficient kitchen with a surplus of cabinet storage and work surfaces while providing plenty of visual interest. Castiello had to think outside the box to incorporate all the details in this small space. To meet their needs, the island incorporates a microwave drawer, while two refrigerator drawers provide extra storage and easy access for the kids. There is also a warming drawer in case someone is late for dinner.
The multilevel island separates the work surface from the eating area, allowing the island to serve multiple functions. The island, as well as a pass-through to the family room complete with bar stools, provides plenty of space for people to congregate wh
ile entertaining. A message center with file drawers helps keep the family organized. Stylewise, the hood is a natural focal point in the kitchen with its interesting detailing and overall Tuscan feel, while the appliances have integrated panels to disguise their location and create a seamless appeal.
The new convenience-minded layout, along with some structural changes, provides easy access and a more open flow to other rooms in the house. In the end, the designer met the homeowners’ goals while merging superior-grade style with a family-functional environment.
